I finally have my PC exactly the way I want it, I have spent many hours installing and reinstalling Ubuntu and Windows, for I am very newbie in this matter.

Now, I would like to back up the whole disk, the way I used to do for windows XP with Norton Ghost. I have alone hard drive, with a few partitions, and using Ubuntu’s boot loader.

Is there a way I can duplicate that hard drive to an image file, or even another hard drive, so I can lately just reverse the process and have my whole system working, with ease?

Thanks

In case if you are looking forward to a dual boot windows 7 and Ubuntu, then this article is going to give you particular solutions. With this dual boot system, you can carry out easy boot mechanisms along with efficient backup procedures. This article will explain to you how to install Ubuntu on Windows 7 and backup Ubuntu to secure the data.

Want to boot your device? Then you can do it with a dual boot system. The two operating systems i.e. windows 7 and Ubuntu can be employed simultaneously to boot the device. But before running the boot mechanism, creating a backup is mandatory. Creating backup for the system and data would protect it against the data loss. This backup could be saved to external storage media. This article is the solution guide for the ones who are looking forward to booting the device via dual boot Ubuntu windows 7. You would get to know about the dual boot system and Ubuntu. A third-party application software solution is also recommended. Here are the topics that would be discussed in detail.

Part 1: Get to Know about Dual Boot System

As the name implies, a dual boot system is installing the two operating systems separately either on different partitions or on the same drive. Both of the operating systems would not overwrite each other. You won’t face any conflict that will run the normal functionalities of the device. Both of the operating systems would be carrying out their file systems. For running a boot mechanism in a dual boot system, you are given a choice at the startup, to choose the system you want your device to boot in. running two operating systems simultaneously, you need to restart your device to switch to another. Particularly talking about the case under discussion in this article, the two operating systems are Ubuntu and windows 7.

As you know, all the settings and data related to the boot mechanism is saved on the internal drive, when you initiate the boot process, the BIOS will boot the loader that in turn loads the operating system.

Talking about dual boot systems, it is not restricted to two operating systems, rather spread to multiple operating systems. You can put the different operating systems in different hard drives and then run the multiple boot mechanisms. You just need to choose the drive from which the BIOS has to boot the loader and in turn the OS. You can even boot the operating systems saved on external hard drives. All you have to do is to connect the drive with the device. This dual boot system can be supported by a single drive. Create partitions to store the different operating systems.

Part 2: What Is Ubuntu?

Apart from the windows, other operating systems are compatible with devices. Out of all, Ubuntu is the one. It is a Linux operating system with totally a new dimension to stable operating systems that are built by free software. It is an open-source software platform based on Debian and GNOME. The latest version for Ubuntu is Kylin 15.04. It is compatible with both the desktops and servers. The latest Ubuntu facilitates Intel x86 (IBM-compatible PC), AMD64 (x86-64), ARMv7, ARMv8 (ARM64), IBM POWER8/POWER9 (ppc64el), IBM Z zEC12/zEC13/z14, and IBM LinuxONE Rockhopper I+II/Emporer I+II (s390x). It helps to configure all i.e. Linux kernel version 5.4 and GNOME 3.28. It also covers everything on your desktop i.e. word processing and spreadsheet applications, internet access applications, web server software, email software, programming languages, and tools, and several games. Here mentioned are some other features related to the operating system.

  1. It is free of cost even for the enterprise versions, so everyone can make the most out of it.
  2. It is high on features like translation and accessibility infrastructure. This makes it usable for a wide audience.
  3. The updates are released at regular intervals.

For the case under discussion in this article, Ubuntu is the operating system that can be used with Windows 7 for running a dual boot system. All you have to do is to install the operating system. Before installation, backup the data present on windows 10 to avoid data loss. But here comes a question, is it easy to backup dual boot windows 7 and Ubuntu? As an answer to this question, you probably need a third-party software solution to support the process.

If your goal is to create a single copy of backup for windows 7 and Ubuntu, you can go for partition backup or you can go for the option of backup the whole disk.

Hence, if you are running a device with a dual boot system, in the above-mentioned case i.e. windows 7 and Ubuntu, you can boot the device by using both operating systems. Both of them can be either stored on a different drive or the same drive in different partitions. All you need to do is to run boot via BIOs for a loader to load the particular operating system. It can effectively help to create the backups i.e. system backup image for both operating systems.
