Can You Recover Only Podcast Clips From a 20TB Drive Without Scanning It All?
Selecting one folder for export is often possible; limiting the physical scan to that folder is a different question. If the folder now contains 0-byte MOV entries, those entries do not point to video content that a simple folder-only search can copy.
In this r/datarecovery 20TB podcast-drive case, the creator needed specific footage, faced an estimated 48-hour scan, and had already found some files with recovery software. Many recovered MOVs still would not play, and attempted video repair had not helped.
Decide Whether the Missing Bytes Still Exist
First check the original camera media, project backups, and known-good copies of each episode. A folder listing 0 bytes says what the current file system records, not necessarily where old video fragments might still reside.
If the 20TB disk shows read errors or disconnects, stop direct scans. If it is stable, a recovery scan may need to read beyond the target directory because damaged metadata no longer identifies the correct storage locations.
Limit the Output, Verify the Clips
Use filename, file type, date, and size filters to narrow results and export only the irreplaceable episodes to different storage. A 10GB recovered MOV that will not open needs intact source bytes, not simply a new extension or more metadata.
Test a full saved sample of a priority clip and retain the untouched source or copy. Preview and export verification is more useful than treating a search result count as successful recovery. Do not repeat a multi-day read just to test another brand if the source is physically deteriorating.
