Can You Recover a Corrupted Nintendo 3DS SD Card for Free?
Yes—if DMDE can already see the files, do not give up or pay for another tool yet. Protect the Card First
Do not reset the SD card, format it, run CHKDSK, or save anything back to it. Recover files to the computer or another healthy drive first.
DMDE Free Can Recover a Whole Open Folder at Once
According to DMDE's official FAQ, the Free Edition can recover up to 4,000 files from the currently opened directory in one operation, and you can repeat that process as many times as needed. The paid editions mainly remove this bulk and nested-directory restriction; they do not make a file recoverable if the free edition cannot recover it intact.
Use DMDE Free Folder by Folder

3dsfolder. Do not select the parent folder and expect the free edition to rebuild every nested subfolder automatically. - Step 2
On the computer, create a destination folder with the same name. If the DMDE folder contains subfolders, recreate those paths as you work through them.

Select the files visible in the current DMDE folder—up to 4,000—and recover them to the matching folder on the computer. Then open the next subfolder in DMDE and repeat. DMDE's own instructions require saving recovered data to another disk so the source is not overwritten.

Start with the irreplaceable items: the personal videos, save-related folders, and mod files. Open a few recovered files to confirm they are usable before spending hours rebuilding the full tree.
Do Not Reset the 3DS Yet
If DMDE finds the official Nintendo 3DS folder, preserve its folder structure exactly. Nintendo's transfer guidance says to copy the entire Nintendo 3DS folder and not alter or erase the files inside it. Whether the two-year Tomodachi Life save itself survived cannot be guaranteed until the recovered files are tested, but resetting or formatting now would only remove options.
The practical answer for this user is therefore: keep using DMDE Free, recover one directory at a time to the computer, and preserve the original folder paths. The interface is tedious, but the files DMDE already sees do not require an EaseUS subscription just to be exported.
