DJI Action 5 Pro MP4 Files Missing While THM and SCR Files Remain

A missing video on your DJI Action 5 Pro is not necessarily deleted. Its originals may be in the camera's 47GB internal storage or on the microSD card. Check which one actually holds the MP4 before formatting, recording anything new, or running recovery software on the wrong device.

That distinction mattered in this Reddit case about missing DJI Action 5 footage. The user found recent THM and SCR files on the card but no MP4 in the expected DCIM folder. After another user suggested internal storage, the original poster checked and reported that the originals were not there either.

First, Locate the Original in Internal Storage or on the microSD Card

DJI confirms that the Action 5 Pro records to either its built-in storage or an inserted microSD card. To check their usage on the camera, swipe down from the top of the screen and then swipe left to the storage display, as shown in DJI's Action 5 Pro manual. Storage usage alone does not establish whether a specific clip is still present.

Check camera playback and DJI Mimo's Playback view. If the full video appears, use Mimo's download option to save a copy to the phone. Alternatively, power on the camera, connect it to a computer with USB-C, and select File Transfer: USB to inspect and copy the original files. DJI documents both export methods in its official Action 5 Pro FAQ. A card reader checks the removable card, not the camera's internal storage.

Only THM or SCR Files Remain on the microSD Card

THM and SCR files are associated with previews or auxiliary camera data; finding them is not proof that the full recording is still available as a playable MP4. In the Reddit case, the poster tried opening those files in HandBrake and could see preview images, but that did not produce the missing original video.

If the missing MP4 was originally recorded on the microSD card, stop using that card. Remove it after turning the camera off, and connect it through a reliable card reader. When the computer detects the card consistently, Wondershare Recoverit Memory Card Recovery can scan for recoverable deleted or missing videos, including MP4 (HEVC) footage. Preview any results and save them to a different healthy drive. A scan cannot guarantee complete video recovery, particularly after formatting or fragmentation.

If the card repeatedly disconnects, overheats, or is not detected by any reader, stop DIY scans and consult a qualified recovery service rather than formatting or repairing the original card.

If the Lost Clips Were in the Camera's Internal Storage

The distinction is critical in this separate Action 5 Pro internal-formatting case: the poster explicitly clarified that the erased travel videos were on internal storage, not on an SD card.

Stop recording with the camera. First check for copies you previously downloaded through DJI Mimo and any files already exported to a computer. DJI Mimo can display device footage, but viewing it does not establish that a separate phone backup exists; downloading is an explicit step.

Do not scan a microSD card for clips that were only stored internally. USB file-transfer access does not by itself mean recovery software can address the camera's internal flash as a raw disk, and direct internal-memory recovery with Recoverit is not verified. If the files have genuinely been deleted or the built-in storage was formatted, ask DJI Support or a qualified specialist about the available options without assuming recovery is possible.
