You do not need to pay for another recovery app just because PhotoRec cannot see the SD card at first. Protect the Card First

Why Does PhotoRec Not Show the SD Card on Mac?

How Should You Start PhotoRec on Mac?

Select the SD card in PhotoRec, scan for the deleted files, and save recovered photos to the Mac or another healthy drive rather than back to the SD card.
If the Card Still Does Not Appear
- macOS sees the physical card but PhotoRec does not: recheck that PhotoRec was started with root permission.
- macOS does not see the card at all: try one known-good reader. If the card is still absent or unstable, this is no longer just a PhotoRec permission problem, and repeated software scans will not help.
PhotoRec is free and open source, but it is a file carver: recovered files may lose their original names and folder structure.
