DJI 3 Footage Deleted Last Week: What to Do When Disk Drill Does Not Fully Recover It
Stop using the microSD card, but do not pay for another recovery license yet. Having recorded nothing since deletion is favorable compared with overwriting the card, but it does not prove the video is recoverable. The missing clip must be found and verified, not just listed in a scan.
In this DJI footage-deletion question on Reddit, the owner deleted video recorded the previous week, had not filmed anything afterward, and had already tried Disk Drill. In a follow-up they said the recovery had not fully worked. They did not identify the precise DJI model, scan mode or whether the specific recording could be previewed, so no single failure cause is established.
Preserve the Card Before Another Attempt
Remove the card from the camera and do not record, format, initialize or run file-system repair on it. Check existing imports or DJI app exports first. If the card appears at its expected capacity and reads normally, make a full byte-for-byte image to a different drive, then attempt recovery against the image where supported. The GNU ddrescue documentation describes preserving readable blocks in an image.
Decide Whether Another Scan or Video Repair Makes Sense
Use the Scan Result
- The exact recording previews with normal duration and picture: Export to separate storage and play the entire clip before deciding that recovery succeeded.
- Only entries, thumbnails, or incomplete video fragments appear: Check an alternative recovery approach that handles camera video fragmentation, and verify actual data before purchasing. A filename alone is not proof of a complete movie.
- A recovered file has substantial video content but will not play: Identify the container and inspect the recovered copy. File repair is a separate step and cannot generate missing video bytes.
- The card disconnects or produces repeated I/O errors: Stop long scans; assess the need for professional imaging instead.
Recoverit Memory Card Recovery is one option for a stable and readable camera card or compatible disk image, but its capability does not guarantee reconstruction of this particular DJI video. The original card should remain untouched while the recovered result is tested.
