How to Solve Samsung Data Migration Cloning Failed

Hi,

I'm trying to clone my HDD onto a Samsung 840 EVO SSD. I've tried the Samsung Data Migration tool, but I keep getting an error about 20 seconds in, saying the clone had failed and given me the following code: 400230 [061b66]. I called Samsung and the guy said they don't support Windows 8.1, so he gave me the runaround. I downloaded EaseUS, but it won't recognize that I've got an SSD connected (I'm using a SATA/USB cable to connect it). Any thoughts? Help would be greatly appreciated.

Other info: It's a brand new HP Envy laptop. I know the cable works because I had successfully cloned and installed the SSD on a brand new windows 8 laptop before I realized it had dead pixels. I returned it and they sent me a windows 8.1 laptop.

Samsung data migration cloning is just another way to transfer data from one device/drive to another to avoid any data loss. But a Samsung clone SSD to SSD sometimes faces an error that hinders the process. In such a scenario, either the process of the Samsung disk clone doesn't start or it fails to complete. It may be due to various reasons, with the simplest one reflecting a disturbance in connection with the source drive/disk. If you are facing the Samsung drive clone error, this article is going to help you understand the mode of error and propose viable solutions to fix it in no time.

Samsung Data Migration cloning failed or the Samsung disk clone error is the type of error that arises in the case when you are attempting to create a clone (either a disk or system clone) via Samsung drive. This may appear as different error messages i.e. if you are confronting the Samsung clone SSD to SSD error, your device will pop up a message like, cloning failed 400230 [061b66], cloning failed -00001[ffffffff], cloning failed with a message on-screen "Cannot create a snapshot", "Target Disk has been disconnected", clone failed with an error code like 0, 99,100, etc. In all aforementioned cases, your device fails to create a system clone image (snapshot). This article will explain about the Samsung data migration cloning failed error along with two possible ways to fix it by using a built-in utility and a third party software solution. Here are the topics that would be discussed in detail.

Part 1: Overview of Samsung Data Migration Cloning Failed Error

Before discussing the Samsung clone SSD to SSD in detail, let's just see what is Samsung data migration? and why you need it? Explain the context in the simplest of words, it is a way to transfer all the data from one device/drive to another. This data may include files, folders, documents, file systems, partitions, operating systems, applications, system drivers, and system updates. With the help of Samsung data migration, you can transfer all of your data from the primary storage location to a new drive (most probably the SSD). With Samsung data migration, you can perform this data transfer process in three steps:

  1. Disk analysis
  2. Cloning settings
  3. Start cloning

Now in case, your device fails to initiate this data migration process, for sure there is this error i.e. Samsung clone SSD to SSD error or Samsung data migration cloning failed error working in the background. What cause this error? Here mentioned are some of the potential reasons that may aggravate the situation.

Operating system: Windows XP SP2 (32-bit) Windows Vista (32/64-bit) Windows 7 (32/64-bit) Windows 8 (32/64-bit) Windows 8.1 (32/64-bit) Windows 10 (32/64-bit)

PC Memory (RAM): 1 GB or more

Disk Space: Minimum 30 MB required for installation

Supported Partition Types: MBR, GPT

Source Disk: The Source Disk (HDD or SSD) must contain the operating system installation

Target Disk Requirement: Samsung SSD 750 EVO Series Samsung SSD 950 PRO Series Samsung SSD 850 EVO Series Samsung SSD 850 PRO Series Samsung SSD 840 EVO Series Samsung SSD 840 PRO Series Samsung SSD 830 Series Samsun SSD 470 Series.

Part 2: How to Fix Samsung Data Migration Cloning Failed Error?

Once you know the exact reason why your device is showing up Samsung data migration cloning failed error, it's time to find out quick fixes. Here are some of the instant solutions that may resolve the error.

1. Defragment the original hard drive:

To defragment the original drive (HDD), run a command prompt, and write 'disk defragmenter'. This will lead you to the defragment utility where you can go ahead and defragment the HDD.

2. Disable page files:

For disabling the page files, here are the steps:

Step 1: In the main menu, right-click my computer and select the option of properties in the dropdown.

Step 2: In the properties window, select the option of advanced followed by selecting performance.

Step 3: Next you have to select the option of Advanced and click change.

Step 4: Uncheck 'Automatically manage paging file size for all drives' and click on the option of No paging file.

3. Disable Hibernation mode:

Run the command prompt and type 'powercfg /hibernate off'. It will disable the hibernation mode. It is disabled in Windows 8/8.1 or Windows 10 by default.

4. Disable system restore point files:

Start with right-clicking on my computer and in the drop-down menu, select the option of properties. Next, click on system protection and lastly turn off Restore Point Protection for the C drive.

5. Reboot your computer and resize system partition:

Reboot the device with the Boot mechanism and resize Drive C. Once done, connect the SSD and initiate the data transfer process.

Part 3: Replacement to Samsung Data Migration

If none of the build-in mechanisms work to fix Samsung clone SSD to SSD (Samsung data migration cloning failed error), then you need a third party software solution. If there is no connection issue with the drive, the software will help to fix the cling error.

AOMEI back upper standard is there to help. It is one of the top HDD cloning and backup software solutions that facilitate the instant cloning of HDD to SSD. Before making a clone, the software will check out the available space on SSD. If the space is not sufficient, you can resize your HDD by excluding some data. It also provides an option for cloning MBR to GPT with a paid version.

Here are the steps to follow for using the software.

Step 1: Initiate the process with downloading and then installing the software on your device.

Step 2: Launch the software and in the main menu, select the option of clone followed by clicking on disk clone.

select-disk-clone

Step 3: In the next window, select the source disk targeted for cloning and click next to proceed.

disk-clone-source

Step 4: Next step is to select the destination drive. Once chosen, click next to continue. Format the destination disk before cloning.

disk-clone-destination

Step 5: Check for the SSD alignment options and click start clone to proceed with the functionality.

disk-clone-start-clone

Once the process is complete, the data would be transferred from HDD to SSD.

Hence, this article was all about the Samsung data migration cloning failed error. Samsung data migration is a function to transfer all data from one drive to another i.e. from HDD to SSD at the time of HDD up-gradation. The process is important for securing data against any potential loss. But there are conditions for this data transfer utility to work. This article explained all the conditions and reasons surfacing by those conditions that end up in showing Samsung disk clone error. There is two way to fix the error. One by using the built-n utility mechanisms and the other is by employing third-party software. Five of the built-in mechanisms are mentioned with steps to fix the error whereas, the AOMEI back upper standard is recommended as the software solution to fix the Samsung data migration cloning failed error.
