Step 3: Open the "Tools" menu and choose "Options."
Step 4: Select "Load/Save" and choose "General."
Step 5: Look to see if the "Save AutoRecovery information every" box is checked. If it is, a backup may exist; if not, check the box now to ensure that backups will be created in the future.
Step 6: Select "OpenOffice.org" at the top of the Options list.
Step 7: Choose "Paths." Note the location beside "Backups." All backups are stored in this directory. The default path is "C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\OpenOffice.org\Version number\user\backup."
Step 8: Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the backup directory. Opening any folder opens Windows Explorer.
Step 9: Double-click the appropriate file to open it.
Step 10: Save it to your desired location and continue editing the document.
