Sony’s PlayStation 4 or PS4 is a gaming console that has gained widespread popularity in recent years. The issue which the users face when it comes to PS4 is storage and at the same time PS4 USB format. The console comes with a hard drive of 500GB. The gamers need much more space to play uninterrupted and to keep the console at the best performance.
The answer is absolutely yes. PS4 comes with an external slot for the USB connections. Therefore you can easily use a USB or external hard drive with the console with the right PS4 external hard drive format. Certain requirements are to be fulfilled. The USB design should be such that it easily attaches itself to the slot. The slot space is too limited when it comes to PS4 so you must buy an external wire or cable if the USB has a weird design.
Requirements
To make sure that the best performance is achieved once the USB has been attached to the system you need to make sure that the following requirements are met. The integral part is the PS4 flash drive format.
First Time Connection
The right PS4 USB drive format is a must. When connected to PS4 the Hard Drive or the USB should be formatted to start transferring the data. For this you need to head over to Settings > Devices > USB Storage Devices > Format as Extended Storage. Once it has been done the external drive will be installed as the auto location for all game data storage and game installations.
If you need to move any current application to your newly installed storage location follow the process as under. Get your PS4 format external hard drive to correct format to work perfectly.
For some weird reasons, the USB format for PS4 is FAT32 or exFAT. When you start formatting your external hard drive with a computer you get a choice to choose the file system you want. There are currently 2 choices that are provided by the windows operating system. These are exFAT and NTFS.
If you are planning on using a hard drive as external storage with PS4 then you need to select exFAT as a format system. The exFAT was introduced back in 2006 and FAT32 as compared to this is too old. Use the correct USB format for PS4 to get the best results.
There are many reasons for which FAT32 should not be used with PS4. The first and foremost is the fact that the FAT32 file size is limited to 4GB only. It means that if there is a game that is larger than 4GB or similar data transfer will not take place at all. You, therefore, need to use the exFAT system to ensure that the PS4 data transfer is smooth.
The exFAT usage with PS4
By all modern means, exFAT is the only system that should be used to make sure that the data is transferred in large chunks. The minimum file size that can be transferred to and from PS4 to the external drive is about 16GB but with exFAT, this increases to at least 50GB per file.
Sometimes, you may need to extend the storage on your PS4 console, you may need a properly formatted external hard drive. To format PS4 external hard drive you need to follow these steps.
Step 1. Open File Explorer on your computer for formatting a hard drive for PS4.
Step 2. Right-click the to format external hard drive on PS4 and select Format from the menu that appears.
Step 3. Select exFAT which is also the default system. Don’t forget to check the Quick Format tab or else the process would be too long. Press start and then click on Yes to initiate the process to select the correct PS4 Pendrive format.
Your external storage is now ready to be used with PS4. The data can be transferred to and from the console with ease as seamlessly. To format a USB drive for PS4 use the process above to get the work done.
