How to Recover Deleted Snapchat Videos: What Can Still Be Saved

You can sometimes recover a deleted Snapchat video, but only if a saved copy still exists somewhere. Check Snapchat Memories or saved Chat media first, then your iPhone Photos or Android Gallery, their deleted-items folders, and any earlier exports. Snapchat says permanently deleted Memories cannot be restored by Snapchat Support. Its My Data download is not a way around that limit. If you previously exported the video to a computer, USB drive, or SD card and later deleted that file, a local video-recovery scan may help. That is a separate situation from a Snap that expired without being saved. Start with the table below to avoid changing or overwriting the only surviving copy.

Part 1. Can You Recover a Deleted Snapchat Video?

The best method depends on where the video last existed. A deleted Memory, a saved MP4 in your phone's Photos app, and a Snap removed from Chat do not have the same recovery options.

Does Snapchat have a Recently Deleted folder? Not for permanently deleted Snapchat Memories. Recently Deleted and Trash are features of your phone's separate photo library, not a Snapchat Memories recycle bin. Part 2. Find Saved Snapchat Videos in Memories or Chat

If the video vanished from your phone gallery, you might still have the original Snap in Snapchat itself. These checks do not require a recovery app, but they apply only while the video is actually stored or accessible.

Find and Export a Video Still in Memories

Best for: A video saved to Memories that you want to restore to your Camera Roll, or a video missing from your phone's Photos app.

Step 1. Open Snapchat using the account where you recorded the video. From the Camera screen, swipe up to open Memories. Look through your saved Snaps and Stories, and use the available search or date views.

Step 2. If you find the video, press and hold it, then choose the available Export or share option. Save the clip to your Camera Roll or an accessible destination, depending on your app version.

Step 3. Open Photos or Gallery and play the saved video to confirm the export worked. Keep another copy outside Snapchat if the recording matters. The location of Memories is confirmed in Snapchat's Memories instructions.

Check Whether the Video Is Still Saved in Chat

Best for: A video that was sent in a conversation and may have been saved as Chat Media. This is different from recovering an opened, expired Snap.

Step 1. Open the conversation where the video was exchanged. Look for saved Chat Media or a surviving message containing the clip.

Step 2. If a playable copy is still there, use the options available to your account and the content owner to preserve it where permitted. Otherwise, ask the sender whether they kept an independent original.

Limit: Not every Snap can be saved in Chat. Snapchat says video Snaps must be set to loop for the Save in Chat feature, and either participant may delete saved media from a one-to-one conversation. See the official Save in Chat rules.

Troubleshoot a Memory That Is Missing or Not Loading

Best for: A previously visible Memory that now displays a blank thumbnail or fails to load. This is a troubleshooting step, not a recovery process for a confirmed deletion.

Step 1. Check the Snapchat account, internet connection, and app updates. Do not uninstall Snapchat or sign out while you are unsure whether the Memories backup finished.

Step 2. Follow Snapchat's current in-app Clear Cache instructions, then restart your phone. Use only the cache command, not the phone's more destructive Clear Storage or Clear Data for all app data. Snapchat says its in-app cache-clearing action does not delete saved Memories.

Step 3. Reopen Memories. If the file is still absent after official troubleshooting, check separate exported copies instead of relying on cache-extraction tools. Snapchat states that genuinely lost or deleted Memories cannot be restored.

Part 3. Recover Snapchat Videos Saved to Your Phone

Your phone can restore a Snapchat video only if you previously saved or exported a copy into a photo library or another folder. Start with the gallery that held the original file. The phone's Trash is not a backup of Snapchat's private servers.

Look in Android Gallery or Recycle Bin

Step 1. Open your phone's Gallery or Photos app. Search by recording date, check the Videos or Snapchat album if present, and look in device file folders where you previously saved exports.

Step 2. If your device's Gallery includes Recycle Bin, Recently Deleted, or Trash, open it and locate the missing video. Choose Restore if the video is still eligible; exact labels and retention periods vary by phone brand and Gallery version.

Step 3. Check playback in the normal Gallery. If no copy was ever exported, the Gallery cannot retrieve the original Snap from Snapchat's servers.

Restore an Exported Video From Google Photos Trash

Best for: A video you previously saved to Google Photos and then deleted. Ensure that you are using the Google account where the copy was stored.

Step 1. Open Google Photos, search the Videos collection or the approximate recording date, and then check Collections > Trash.

Step 2. Select the missing video and tap Restore if available. Google's current help says deleted photos and videos in Trash are permanently removed after 30 days; permanently deleted items cannot be restored from that folder.

Step 3. Open the restored file and play it. If the clip is absent from Trash, check only other actual backups or saved copies. Google Photos restore instructions explain the current conditions. Restore a Snapchat Video From Recently Deleted

Best for: A Snap you exported into the iPhone Photos library, then deleted from that library.

Step 1. Open Photos and check the Videos collection and the date the Snap was saved. Then open Collections > Recently Deleted under Utilities and unlock the album if prompted.

Step 2. Select the video and choose Recover if it is still present. Apple documents a 30-day Recently Deleted period. Deleting from iCloud Photos may also remove it from other synced devices.

Step 3. Confirm the video is back in Photos and plays correctly. If it is missing, look for a prior export in Files or on a computer. Avoid restoring an entire old iPhone backup just to test for one clip: that action may replace newer phone data, and a backup is useful only if it actually contained an independently saved copy. Part 4. Download Snapchat Videos That Still Exist in My Data

Snapchat's My Data feature exports information and Memories that the service still retains and makes available to your account. It is useful for locating existing saved videos and creating an offline archive. It does not recreate an expired, unsaved Snap or a permanently deleted Memory.

Request a Memories Export From Snapchat

Step 1. Sign in to your own account at accounts.snapchat.com, then open My Data. Under Select data to include, enable Export your Memories and choose Request Only Memories if the option is available. Select the date range and confirm your notification email.

Step 2. Submit the request. When Snapchat tells you the archive is ready, sign in again and use See exports > Download. Larger exports can take longer to prepare; do not assume a missing email means the media is deleted.

Step 3. Download the ZIP to a trusted computer. Extract it and open index.html in a browser, then choose Memories in the navigation. Download any individual video that Snapchat still offers and confirm its playback.

Part 5. Check Existing Exports and Backups Before Scanning a Drive

If the clip was exported once, it may have a separate life outside Snapchat. Check saved copies before installing software, especially if the video is important and you want to avoid overwriting source data.

• Computer copies: Search Downloads, Movies, Videos, desktop folders and previous Snapchat export folders on your own Windows or Mac computer. Check Recycle Bin or Trash if a file was deleted there.
• Cloud libraries: Check the account and storage service you actually used, such as Google Photos, iCloud Photos or a cloud drive, including its deleted-items area if available. Sync alone does not guarantee a separate backup.
• Shared copies: If you sent a video to a trusted recipient, ask whether they kept a copy. Only access accounts or files you own or have permission to use.
• Existing backups: Search any computer or device backup created before the deletion. Confirm the backup contains the exported video before considering a restore that could replace newer files.

If no independently saved video ever existed, a computer-drive scan cannot reconstruct the original Snapchat message. If a real MP4 or MOV was deleted from a specific drive, follow the local recovery workflow below.

Part 6. Recover a Deleted Local Snapchat Video With Recoverit

If you saved a Snapchat video as an ordinary file and later deleted it from a readable Windows or Mac disk, USB drive, external drive, or removable SD card, Wondershare Recoverit may be able to find recoverable video data. Check Whether the Exported Video Was Actually Stored on the Drive

Before scanning, identify the original drive and folder that held the exported MP4 or MOV. Stop copying new files to that drive. If the file is still in Recycle Bin, Trash or an existing backup, restore that copy first. Step 2. Scan the chosen source. Use available video filters, file paths or search to find relevant MP4 and MOV candidates. Let the scan progress if the file has not yet appeared, and avoid writing new data to the source.

Step 3. Preview a candidate when the feature supports the file. Select the desired result and choose Recover. Preview does not guarantee the complete video is recoverable.

Step 4. Save the file to a different healthy physical drive, not the affected one. Open the saved video and check the picture, sound, length and important moments. If it is damaged, preserve the recovered file and consider video repair separately; do not overwrite the source.

Part 7. What Cannot Be Recovered From Snapchat?

Some losses have no recovery path inside the app. Recognizing them early helps you avoid unsafe software and unnecessary account changes.

• Permanently deleted Memories: Snapchat says its support team cannot restore them. Only an independent copy already saved elsewhere may remain.
• Expired Snaps that were never saved: A My Data report or a cache-folder name does not mean an actual video file still exists. Snapchat's retention depends on whether content was viewed, saved or expired.
• A deleted Snap from Chat: If no saved Chat Media or separate copy survives, reopening the conversation cannot force the video back.
• Locked or encrypted Snapchat-only content: Do not use tools that claim to bypass Snapchat account security, My Eyes Only protections, or phone encryption.
• Files erased by overwriting, physical failure or device reset: Ordinary recovery software cannot guarantee retrieval. Do not root a phone, reset it, or wipe application storage in an attempt to recover a Snap.

Part 8. Prevent Losing Snapchat Videos Again

A second copy is more reliable than any recovery method. Configure how you save new Snaps, check Snapchat's backup status, and periodically export important videos.

Save Snaps to Memories and Camera Roll

Step 1. In Snapchat, open Settings > My App > Memories under the App & Privacy area (menu labels can vary slightly). Check Backup Progress and wait until it says Complete before you log out, change phones or uninstall.

Step 2. In Memories settings, open Save Button and select Memories & Camera Roll if offered. This affects Snaps you save in the future; it does not recover content already deleted.

Step 3. Periodically export important videos to a computer or independent photo library and test that the copies play. A synced library can propagate deletions, so maintain a separate backup for irreplaceable clips.
